Disgraced ex-Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss bagged their cronies lifetime seats in our parliament and Labour leader Keir Starmer has vowed to scrap the bloated and outdated Lords once and for all. We need to make sure he keeps that promise.

At Sortition Foundation, perhaps unsurprisingly, we hope that an upgraded second chamber would involve citizens' assemblies selected by sortition, but unless Keir Starmer keeps his promise, we won’t have a democracy we can be proud of any time soon.
